David Ornstein reveals the latest update in the chase of Houssem Aouar

|

Arsenal scouts have warned figures at the club over signing Houssem Aouar in this transfer window, according to David Ornstein.

The famed journalist has claimed that the recommendations against making a move for the France international is about more than his performances.

Aouar was a top target for the Gunners in last summer’s transfer window, however, the club couldn’t get Lyon to budge on their valuation of the midfielder.

Do Arsenal need to sign a creative midfielder in the January transfer window?

Yes

No

Think about all the bad eggs that have reared their heads over the last couple of seasons at the club. The last thing Mikel Arteta and his coaching staff would want is another among their spoiled first-team squad.

Matteo Guendouzi famously refused to apologise to the Spanish coach over his bitter feud with Neal Maupay after last year’s 2-1 loss to Brighton and Hove Albion. He was shown the door as a result and you’d have to take your hat off to Arteta for taking swift action.

The same has occurred with Mesut Ozil, who has seemingly been banished to the sideline by the former Manchester City coach. Arsenal legend Liam Brady lambasted the German for being poor in the dressing room, hinting at good decision making from Arteta in banishing the playmaker.

Nicolas Pepe is another player who has faced the wrath of the former Manchester City coach, sitting on the sidelines for the majority of the top-flight campagin.

Whether or not you rate Aouar as a top-level player doesn’t matter. The issue is he has proven to be a bad egg to the Arsenal scouting system and as a result has been rejected. I’d stick my neck out on the line and say that’s a good move from the hierarchy in the long-term.

In other news, one defender is being allowed to leave the club on loan this month.
