David Dein – The Truth

With ‘Marriotgate’ still fresh in the minds of most, David Dein has come under fire from many folks, especially those from the otherside of the Seven Sisters.

However, half of the comments blindly banded around have been done so with many factual inaccuracies.

Double D has been accused of influencing the decision not to allow Spurs to replay that infamous fixture against West Ham.

The fixtures of the Premier League are arranged by the Premier League themselves, and the decision whether or not the game should be replayed was soley down to the PL board, and seen as Dein is a representative
of the FA and not the PL, it would have been impossible for him to influence anything.

‘David Dein was supossed to try and elect the best man for the England job, how come he protected Arsene Wenger?’ I hear you cry, the answer is simple, Arsene Wenger was approached for the England job, and as stated on many ocassions, he was not interested, he loves the day to day involement of club football and wants to fulfill his obligation to the Gunners.

I keep hearing people saying ‘How can David Dein be Vice-Chairman of Arsenal Football Club and the FA, surely that is a conflict of interest!’ Well once again, the answer is simple, David Dein is NOT the vice-chairman of the FA, there is no such post, he did hold the position from 2002-2004 until the FA decided it was no longer needed and it was scrapped.

The other issue I have with people whinging about Dein being, as they now know, an FA representative is the ‘conflict of interest’ moan. The position that Dein holds is one that said representative, needs to be elected to………..let an FA spokesman explain.

‘The representation of the FA board consists of people elected from different areas of the game.’

‘The Premier League elects a number of representatives to sit on the board to represent their views, of which David Dein is clearly one.’

This means, my friends, that David Dein was elected by members of the Premiership, ie: chairmen of other clubs, ie: SPURS, to sit on the board and represent the league, so how any of you can sit and judge Dein, when he was voted in by your own, is beyond me.

If Dein was not on the board, it would be another chairmen, so this has nothing to do with conflict of interest, but it has everything to do with sour grapes and looking for someone to blame.

Now this is clear, surely this subject can be left alone, and the childish finger pointing can stop.
