When Ashley Cole left for Chelsea, the general consensus was that the mighty Arsenal were losing the finest left back in the world, and no matter who you are, you are going to miss a player like him.

Unless you have a clone.

There’s an advert on tv at the moment that suggests that 60% of people in Thailand believe human cloning has already taken place, and if that’s true, my guess is that they started with Mr. Ashley Cole, only somehow they managed to rid his clone of the crappy attitude.

Gael Clichy has spent most of his career trying to get in front of Cole, in vein, and when that wasn’t happening he was injured. Well now Ashley ‘I almost crashed my Bently’ Cole has done one, Clichy has stepped up to the plate.

Even though he has been out for such a long time, he has seemlessly slotted into the side and his performances have improved with each game, something not gone un-noticed by Arsene Wenger.

‘Gael is the answer, 100 per cent the answer,’ said Wenger. ‘When we lost Ashley Cole, we were thinking ‘OK we have got Clichy, injured’ but with a lot of potential.’

‘What he is doing now at the moment after being out for one year is quite amazing. He is handling it very well and he is getting stronger with every game.’

‘It is a good challenge for him, because he will be compared to his model. He always said ‘Ashley Cole is my model’ and he will be compared to his model.’

‘Ashley is playing well and I am not surprised because we lost a player who is 26-years-old, the best age for a football player. But Gael has the potential [to be as good as Cole].’
