No doubt other clubs listed here would have their own favourite year to take a Group Stage points tally from but as I found this information on Paris Saint-Germain’s website, they get to pick the 2011/12 years as the starting point.

With this midweek’s Champions League encounters all done and dusted, a number of teams have already secured their passage through to the round of 16 stage this year:

Arsenal, Atletico Madrid, Bayern Munich, Borussia Dortmund and Paris Saint-Germain.

Many others remain only one game shy of securing their qualification as well with a point being good enough for some, and three points confirming it for many others.

In any event, PSG have tallied the points up over the last five seasons from Group Stage encounters – including the midweek action – here’s how the sides fair up.

1. Real Madrid: 69 points.
2. Bayern Munich: 67 points.
3. FC Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain: 64 points.
5. Arsenal: 54 points.
6. FC Porto: 49 points.
7. Juventus: 47 points.
8. Manchester City: 45 points.
9. Benfica: 40 points.

I suppose in some ways it shows Group Stage form doesn’t necessarily count, others would say with Real and Bayern and Barca near the top is does when it comes to Final appearances.
