Arsenal confirmed yesterday that Santi Cazorla would now undergo surgery on his troublesome right ankle to aide his return to fitness.

The player will travel to Sweden early next week for the operation after the club’s medical team and specialists made the decision that surgery was required to correct the plantaris tendon in his right foot.

The issue hasn’t progressed with rest as was initially hoped and therefore his rehabilitation programme, following the injury sustained at the Emirates Stadium against Ludogorets in the Champions League on October 19, now needs some encouragement to get him back to full speed.

Unfortunately surgery does mean the player will be out of action for the next three months, but once back, hopefully he’ll be fit and raring to go once more.
