Bravo to the Arsenal Board

I have penned a number of articles over the last few weeks in criticism of Arsenal’s treatment of their supporters. Happily, in yesterday’s match programme I was given reason to rejoice and laud the powers that be at Arsenal.

My day had not started ideally when I received news of the prospective Carling Cup draw. Quite frankly, one visit a season to WHL is one too many thank you. I hate this fixture, I would not for one minute suggest it is anything other than an idiotic moniority, but some of the scenes outside the away turnstile are heartbreaking. (Other things get broken as well, bottles, bones). But perousal of the match day programme lightened my mood.

Arsenal have announced their Cup Final ticket policy and it was a very pleasant surprise. Firstly, full credit is due to the club for initiating a fans forum and discussing the issue with a representative supporters club. Given the results, it certainly seemed the club listened!

The Club policy dictates that away scheme members will be guaranteed a ticket. As a gold member and away scheme member you may accuse me of being slightly self congratulatory here, but this is an excellent decision and one which rewards the supporters who put in the most effort and spend the most money. Next down the list are Gold members with the most away credits. Club Level Members, Bond holders and Box holders do not get any priority over other gold members. Another completely correct choice.

Of course, there will always be dissatisfied elements. For instance, Silver Members who attend every fixture. I am sure the corporate types will be up in arms but this really is the best policy (not just because it’s the one that suits me!) The club have implemented the policy in good time as well, so the circumstances are clear to all. The thought of travelling to Liverpool for a postponed Carling Cup Fixture and then be denied a prospective Final ticket by a random ballot was just too much to bare. I think most will agree that this is the fairest and most just policy for all concerned. I will express such sentiments to the club in writing. A very big well done to messrs Edelman, Dein and Hill Wood for listening to the supporters and implementing their concerns. Keep it up. LD.
