The Premiership’s greatest ever import will get to play the first ever game in the Emirates stadium.

Arsenal have at last announced the date of the Dutch master, Dennis Bergkamp’s testamonial. The game will take place at the Emirates stadium on Saturday 22nd July.

The event will be an emotional one as Dennis brings his 11 year Arsenal career to an end by playing against his former club, Ajax, with Arsenal stars past and present.

‘It will be an emotional day for me as I have spent the last 11 years here, playing some of the best football of my career,’ said Bergkamp.

‘The supporters have been amazing to me and I hope that they will enjoy the day as much as I will.

‘What will make the occasion extra special is not only will it be the first-ever match at Emirates Stadium, it will be an opportunity to see Arsenal players past and present on the pitch at the same time.’

With a number of safety checks still to be undertaken, rather disapointingly the game will take place with a reduced capacity of 45,000, which is more than Highbury but will still leave 15,000 empty seats which would easily have been filled.
