Nicklas Bendtner has confirmed he will return to Arsenal in the summer after spending a season on loan at Championship side Birmingham City.

The 18-year-old Dane has been a revelation this season, scoring some vital goals for Birmingham, but more importantly, he has shown that he is very much an all-round striker. Fantastic in the air, comes deep to link up play, works the channels well.

He scored goals for fun at youth level for club and country and he did the same when Wenger saw fit to promote him to the reserves. I went to watch him a few times playing for the Arsenal reserves at Barnet`s Underhill stadium and he always looked good.

I remember going to watch him when Arsenal reserves played Spurs. A few Spuds made their way into the Arsenal fans and started taunting him when he came wide for the ball. “You`re built like a jockey`s whip” were the cries from the Tiny Totts. After the 5,749th time he looked up at them, he looked furious, he skinned 3 or 4 spurs players and whipped the ball across goal, no one was able to get on the end of it, unfortunately.

Speaking in a Sunday newspaper Bendtner said: ‘This is a fantastic experience for me, but I’m an Arsenal player, it is still my ambition to break into the Arsenal team and I hope to do that next season.

‘I believe I could play in this Arsenal team, otherwise I wouldn’t be going back. It’s going to be tough, because there are some great strikers at the club, but I can compete for a place.’
