Nicklas Bendtner has confirmed he will return to Arsenal in the summer after spending a season on loan at Championship side Birmingham City.

The 18-year-old Dane has been a revelation this season, scoring some vital goals for Birmingham, but more importantly, he has shown that he is very much an all-round striker. Fantastic in the air, comes deep to link up play, works the channels well.

He scored goals for fun at youth level for club and country and he did the same when Wenger saw fit to promote him to the reserves. I went to watch him a few times playing for the Arsenal reserves at Barnet`s Underhill stadium and he always looked good.

I remember going to watch him when Arsenal reserves played Spurs. A few Spuds made their way into the Arsenal fans and started taunting him when he came wide for the ball. “You`re built like a jockey`s whip” were the cries from the Tiny Totts. After the 5,749th time he looked up at them, he looked furious, he skinned 3 or 4 spurs players and whipped the ball across goal, no one was able to get on the end of it, unfortunately.

Speaking in a Sunday newspaper Bendtner said: ‘This is a fantastic experience for me, but I’m an Arsenal player, it is still my ambition to break into the Arsenal team and I hope to do that next season.

‘I believe I could play in this Arsenal team, otherwise I wouldn’t be going back. It’s going to be tough, because there are some great strikers at the club, but I can compete for a place.’

  • I have to be honest this lad excites way more than Ade, Beast and Ali, obviously the standard is’nt as high in the championship but he is without doubt a born all round striker, which lets face it we have’nt had this season with RVP and Henry out for huge chunks. his downside seems to be he believes his own press which Arsene will hopefully drill out of him

  • It’s good to see positive comments coming from this lad rather than “I deserve……..” comments. A much better attitude.

  • Spot on Rocky, he was a bit too arrogant for my liking earlier but seems to have come down to earth and after watching him today for Birmingham he really meant business. Muamba was pretty good too, looks very powerful and he went from box to box in no time. Bruce must be very thankful to AW.

  • What are we going to do with fabrice when he comes back? im sure he has many midfielders in front of him…

  • That’s a good question ahops. Berto, Denilson, Flamini, Diaby, Song – they can all play there. Muamba also looks like a Vieira type of enforcer. A great talent. I really have no idea what AW has in mind for him. Kerrea Gilbert too.

  • Indeed Rocky and G4L. I was getting tired of that in the beginning as well, but his comments now are much more positive. “I’m an Arsenal player.” …Fan-frkkin-tastic! x)

  • Good comment, good player and hopefully a good attitude and he could become a great player for us in the future.

  • I saw an interview with him in Danish FHM where he was talking about how he loves to go out partying and drinking. Wenger will have to work on this boy’s attitude, but these are much better quotes. On an unrelated incident, did anyone see Song’s performance against Watford? He looked absolute class. 🙂

  • Song was sold though, not loaned, right? So that’s one less in midfield. How old is Gilberto? How many seasons does he have in him?

  • afri-gooner – song is on loan at charlton till the end of this season. gilberto is abt 30, and the way he’s playing, looks to have atleast 2-3 good seasons ahead of him.

  • ok, we’re spoilt for choice! We don’t have too many natural wide players, so somebody will either adapt, or get swopped.

  • Agreed Rocky, more of the desir to fight for a place have one presented to him… not so chuffed about Ade’s comments though…»»Arsene Knows««

  • yeah wings, but Ade does not seem to take that attitude on to the pitch, and more importantly, seems to getting along with the rest of the bunch off the pitch as well. I like the guy, so I’m hoping it was a mistake and its not a big deal.

  • I watched the highlights of the Charlton game, though not the whole thing, but Song was towering in the midfield. His pass for their first goal could have been made by Rosicky, Cesc, or dare I say Bergkamp. Terrific! And for their second goal he intelligently shifted the attack across field to an open man, forcing the defense out of shape and opening room for his striker. Looked great.

  • He is an all round striker so cant wait to see him play for us. But I just hope he has his head screwed on and improves his attitude. I hope the comment about drinking and partying all the time is not true.
