It’s been 4 months since a crocked Bendtner left the pitch playing for Denmark against Japan in South Africa. He hasn’t played since but in the last month the groin injuries that have plagued him since a car crash a year ago have now finally disappeared he claims. So much so that he feels he was only a few days short of being able to turn out for Denmark in the Euro qualifiers this week.
“I would not reasonably be able to go back to try to play matches [for Denmark] without being ready for my club first. It’s going really well, but I am annoyed because I just needed to be ready one week earlier” he said.
The Danish striker, who scored 8 times in 13 starts after a long injury lay off last winter, is excited at the prospect of being able to play after another enforced break.
“It is quite amazing. I reckon I’m probably right to be involved in the fight on Saturday for Arsenal – and I am excited” Bendtner told reporters.
“I thought ideally that I should play one or two reserve games first, but I am in such good shape that it is not needed. Now I’m physically ready, and when I sign ready for my manager Arsene Wenger, I’m sure that I’ll also be included in the squad.”
Since van Persies injury we’ve depended on Chamakh playing the lone forward role which he has done pretty well but while it will take Bendtner still sometime to regain macth fitness we do at least have the opportunity to vary our attack a little more with his return – if only on the bench for now.
