Arsenal striker Nicklas Bendtner, currently on loan at Juventus, had been banned from the Danish national team for six months after being caught by police drink driving in Copenhagen on Saturday night. In February 2011, Bendtner was banned from driving for 56 days after being clocked driving his porsche at 103mph. He was also arrested and later cleared for five counts of criminal damage in December 2011 when he and Sunderland teammate Lee Cattermole were accused of smashing cars belonging to Newcastle fans.

Bendtner tweeted his contrition on Sunday evening via his personal account, ‘Dear friends, I was booked for a mild case of drink driving last night. It was a quiet night but I am very very sorry to all my friends and fans. It is not OK to drink and drive. I take full responsibility.’

The Danish F.A. announced today that Bendtner would not be considered for selection again until September. He had already served a one match ban last September after exposing a branded logo on his underwear having scored for Denmark at Euro 2012. Bendtner was caught driving against traffic in his hometown. He spent 2011-12 on loan at Sunderland and is currently on loan at Italian champions Juventus. His Arsenal contract runs until 2014.
