German champions Bayern Munich have dropped interest in Alexis Sanchez having signed James Rodriguez from Real Madrid last week – chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge has confirmed as much.

Rummenigge told German magazine Kicker, via Sky Sports: ‘We are no longer involved. We have agreed with our coach that we won’t add [new players] in attack. It wouldn’t make any sense.’

It didn’t seem as if Alexis was too keen on Bayern anyway, who had been wavering in their interest in the Arsenal forward, which eventually saw them turn to Real Madrid’s Colombian international on a two year loan deal.

Arsenal will come up against Bayern in Shanghai on Wednesday.

One down two to go then? However, if Alexis is to leave Arsenal this summer Arsene Wenger’s insistence he’ll not deal with a Premier League rival only realistically leaves one option, doesn’t it?

Manchester City quite clearly want to sign Alexis and can also offer him the Champions League football he desires. Arsenal aren’t prepared to sell to City so Paris Saint German, who can offer the financial incentive and European competition he requires, would give him, and the Gunners, a potential escape route.

It’ll be interesting to see what does happen once Alexis is due to return to pre-season training. If he’s made it clear he’ll not be signing a new contract, which seems crystal as it is, can Arsenal economically afford NOT to offload the forward for £50m if Pep Guardiola’s side will pay that?!
