Arsenal teammates Shkodran Mustafi and Alexis Sanchez go head to head at the Confederations Cup this evening when Germany take on Chile, but will they still be club mates next season?

Mustafi certainly hopes this will prove to be the case with the ‘extraordinary’ Alexis.

The German, an ex-Everton defender who arrived last summer, hopes Arsenal can convince the forward to stay in North London as Mustafi doesn’t feel there are as many players ‘hungry as him.’

Mustafi told Bild, via Sky Sports: ‘I hope he stays, it would be a pity to lose him. He is an extraordinary player, for me one of the best in the world. I have experienced few players who are as hungry as him. As soon as he is on the ball, everyone knows something can happen. Once he has made his way to the front of the goal, you will not be able to take the ball.’

He went on to say he could ‘play in every team’ including Bayern, adding: ‘He could play anywhere, even at Bayern.’

Bayern are one of the clubs being linked with Alexis, now into the final year of his Arsenal contract and so far offering little indication a new Gunners deal will be signed, which appears less likely after missing out on a top-four finish last season, despite his 24 Premier League goals.
