The long speculated capture of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang came to an end earlier today as Arsenal announced his capture from Borussia Dortmund.

The 28 year old arrives on a long term contract for an undisclosed fee although it’s being reported as a club record £56million.

He becomes Arsene Wenger’s third capture of the January window and Aubameyang’s playing record speaks for itself. Having started at Nice, taking in loan spells with Lille and Monaco, he moved to St Etienne before arriving in the German Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund.

At his previous clubs he had a hand in 172 goals in 213 matches and Dortmund he record was 98 goals in 144 games, so for the mathematicians amongst you that’s an average of 96 minutes per assist or goal and you really wouldn’t think it will take him too long to adjust to the Premier League as he’s undoubtedly going to play his part in helping the club to finish the campaign far stronger than in recent matches.

The Gabon international skipper is also his country’s all top goalscorer and he picked up the African Footballer of the Year award back in 2015.

Arsenal have handed him the No 14 shirt. Having spoken about Henry in his opening interview at the club, no real surprise in seeing him take that number.

Speaking to the Official Site the player himself explained.

‘Finally! I`m really happy to be here. Of course I can join Micki in this team, so I`m really happy to be here in this great team. I think the club has such a big history and great players like Thierry Henry. He’s an example for us strikers. I`m really happy, like I said before.’

Asked to describe his playing style and if he had a message for fans, he added.

‘I`m a fast player and I score goals too, like Henry a little bit. But as I said, I have to work a lot more. I hope that we will come back to the top as soon as possible. I will do my best to join in.’
