Having enjoyed a tremendous first season with Arsenal, it looks as though Mikel Arteta will renegotiate his deal this summer to reflect his performance. BBC Sport is reporting that Arteta’s representatives will meet with Ivan Gazidis this week for improved terms.

I’d imagine this is something that was pre agreed last summer, when he signed in the final minutes of summer deadline day. The deal was concluded in such a rush that Arteta accepted an overall pay cut on the reported £80k a week deal he had at Everton. With time an issue, it’s not impossible to speculate on a scenario whereby the two parties would have agreed to review this summer.

Many may ask if this is a priority, but with other contract situations such as Walcott and van Persie enervated by the Euros, now probably is a good time to sit with Arteta. If my suspicions are right (and they are only suspicions) that this move was pre agreed, then we’d have had to do it at some point anyway. Plus, I suspect Arsenal have more than one person that works on these sort of things! LD.
