Despite Arsenal’s first bid for Andrei Arshavin being rejected, the wily play-maker is already thinking about his shirt number at the club.
Arsene Wenger had been unusually coy about the signing of Arshavin, refusing to comment on the transfer despite dismissing all other rumours, indeed shortly after Zenit themselves stated negotiations were on going.
Arshavin says he would prefer the number 10 shirt that currently resides on the back of William Gallas, but knows the shirt is taken.
‘I would prefer my present No.10 but in the team where I hope to move it’s not vacant. So I’m ready for any number they are going to offer me,’
The Russian also hinted that he could adapt to the Gunners style quite easily after his current team performed in a similar fashion last season.
‘In some games last season, we played football which was very similar to that of Arsenal’
