Ok, so he hasn’t actually insulted young Theo, but he may as well have done after comparing him to Sylvain Wiltord.

The strange comparison comes as Le Boss speaks about Theo’s growth both physically and as a player.

‘Theo can play wide or centrally. He will get another injection of power in the next two years,’ Wenger said.

‘Thierry Henry and Theo could be a dream partnership, but it’s down to him to achieve that. He’s still growing but I don’t think he will become taller, he’ll become stronger. He will become a stocky type, a bit like Sylvain Wiltord physically, strong legs and lots of power.’

If you pay 12 million quid for some young talented player you should really set your sights higher than becoming a player who scores a few important goals for the club but becomes more lackadaisical as he gets older.

In all seriousness, Wenger was speaking only positively in this interview and was comparing Walcott to Wiltord physically rather than the standard of football. Wenger believes that Walcott has shown tremendous character after returning from the World Cup with his confidence dented somewhat to bounce back and make his first two appearance for the Gunners meaningful ones.

‘He came back from the World Cup like he couldn’t play football,’ Wenger explained. ‘The fact that he comes on and does well is fantastic. Remember, he’s only 17 years old. He should be playing in the under-18s tomorrow.’

Wenger also confirmed that Walcott could soon be fast tracked into a starting birth after impressing early on in his Arsenal career.

‘He’s not far away from me giving him an opportunity. He was behind physically at the start of the season, and I don’t think he’s ready to play 90 minutes. Yet when he comes on, it looks like he can make a difference at the top level. You have another big player in England, and everybody should be happy.’

Theo will once again be on the bench for Today’s away trip to Man City, can the young forward go one better than making assits and actually bag one for himself? Lets hope so.
