After 15 months of claims and counter claims from fans, Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Carlos Vela IS owned by Arsenal.

The Mexican striker shot to a degree of fame when he became the top scorer at the U-17 World Cup, including a goal in the final against Brazil.

He spent last season on loan at Spanish second division side Salamancia, scoring 6 goals in 10 starts for them.

He expressed his sadness at leaving them but insisted he was excited at the prospect of moving to Arsenal in the summer of 2008. He will spend this season on loan at a La Liga club, thought to be Arsenal’s feeder club – Celta Vigo.

There was no word from Arsenal when he was signed last summer, so the following comments are the first from anyone at Arsenal regarding the little Mexican.

‘He’s top class,’ said Arsene wenger. ‘I like his intelligence and his pace. He scores goals but he can also create them.

‘He’s a special talent and I believe 100 per cent that he will make it at the highest level.’
