With all due respect, when you consider what a poor season Sunderland had, of course Arsenal’s campaign wasn’t brilliant by any means, you wonder what players the Gunners could actually be interested in?

The obvious candidate is the standout performer, Jordan Pickford. The England goalkeeper has been linked with Arsenal but it’s a pair of teenagers looking to make their mark at the Stadium of Light reportedly catching the eye of Arsene Wenger.

According to the Sunderland Echo Joel Asoro and Benjamin Mbunga-Kimpioka are of interest to the Arsenal boss.

Liverpool, Everton and Southampton are reportedly interested in Asoro, 18, who became Sunderland’s youngest ever Premier League player when debuting last season. Mbunga-Kimpioka, 17, hasn’t made his Black Cats breakthrough yet but isn’t far off it.

Reports in the Sunderland Echo say Arsenal are ‘leading the race’ for the signature of Swedish U21 international Asoro, who, like Mbunga-Kimpioka, would be expected to become a regular in Sunderland’s side in the Championship next season.

A £5m double swoop could see them added to Arsenal’s young guns though. These reports went as far to say Sunderland would be willing to sell the pair.
