Never a dull moment at the Emirates Stadium – the deal for Monaco’s Thomas Lemar has apparently broken down.

With Manchester City continuing to circle Alexis Sanchez, Arsenal made a late and great £92million offer for the player given our long links with him and a previously reported £30million being rejected.

Despite reports saying that Monaco had accepted what would’ve been Arsenal’s new record transfer spend, Sky Sports sources are now saying that the move has in fact collapsed and not only will Arsenal not be progressing the deal, it also means we have shut the door on entertaining any possible move for Alexis Sanchez today.

There’s little meat on the bones at the moment but there are unconfirmed reports that the player himself preferred Anfield and Liverpool as a destination, so effectively he personally pulled the plug on the move.

Other suggestions at this stage was that Monaco didn’t in fact accept the bid as they deemed it too late in the day to complete the deal.

More will no doubt be clear in the coming hours.
