Arsenal youngster who was compared to Ian Wright signs new long-term contract

Folarin Balogun has signed a new long-term contract with Arsenal, ending speculation over his future at the Emirates Stadium.

The news was announced across both Arsenal’s and the Hale End academy product’s Twitter accounts with the latter confirming the new deal will expire in 2025.

Balogun, whose old deal was set to expire at the end of the current campaign, was linked with a move to Red Bull Leipzig after Football Insider claiming the Bundesliga outfit had reached a pre-contract with the youngster.

Should Balogun be given some opportunities in the first-team?

Yes

No

It’s news which ends months of speculation over the future over one of the club’s brightest young attacking talents. The England youth international has enjoyed a sensational start to life in the Arsenal first-team having scored twice and assisted another across just 73 minutes of senior football.

The news also goes a step further to confirming the club’s plans for their strikers. Up until the news about Balogun’s contract renewal, it was anybody’s guess over which of the center-forwards would be at the club ahead of next season.

A report from football.london back during the middle of February claimed the side were open to selling Alexandre Lacazette and Eddie Nketiah in the summer. That news coupled with the then-uncertainty over Balogun’s long-term future at the club made for stark confusion over just what the club were planning for next season.

However, with the Englishman, who was compared to Ian Wright, confirmed to be staying, and forming part of Mikel Arteta’s first-team plans for next season, there is some certainty over what is being planned ahead of a crucial third season at Arsenal for the Spaniard.

In other news, one former player called for one of his teammates to be appointed Arsenal manager.
