Arsene Wenger says he is in the market for a striker as the Gunners enter one of the most important periods of football for a long time.

The Arsenal gaffer is on the look out for a new frontman after long term injuries to van Persie, Bendtner and Walcott.

Wenger however admits that he’s not even close to bringing someone in.

“Yes, I am still thinking about trying to bring someone in this month, but I must confess I am not very close to doing anything at this moment,’ said Wenger.

‘I am looking at buying strikers because when we started the season we were playing with Van Persie and Bendtner up front. But at the moment we don’t have either of them, while we are also without Walcott.’

‘So we are missing those three as we enter a very important period of the season when every point is crucial and can make the difference at the end of a season. But right now I am not close because I am yet to find a player who can convince me that he is better than what we have already.’
