An offer for Monaco’s Thomas Lemar has been turned down so Arsene Wenger is considering turning his efforts to alternative options, potentially leading to a formal bid for Riyad Mahrez.

Leicester’s Mahrez has intimated an interest in joining Arsenal and Wenger has hinted the Gunners could make an approach for the Algerian in the past. Now set to be the case, according to the Telegraph.

With offers, reportedly, around the £85m mark going in for Lemar and Lyon’s Alexandre Lacazette, without any joy for Arsenal, Wenger’s approaching the time where he’s got to seriously look at other options.

Monaco’s stance with Lemar is clear – he isn’t for sale at any price – and there’s little chance of this changing. However, Lacazette could yet end up in North London? Then again this situation seems to change on a near daily basis.

Holding a long-term admiration of Mahrez, PFA Player of the Year when Leicester won the Premier League title in 2016; Wenger is thought to have made ‘fresh soundings’ about his availability.

It is understood Mahrez will be allowed to leave the King Power Stadium, due to an agreement made with the clubs hierarchy last summer, but Leicester’s £50m valuation wouldn’t be met so the Foxes would have to lower their valuation of the forward, 26.
