A statement on Cardiff Citys official website suggests that Arsenal are close to signing teenage Welsh U21 midfielder Aaron Ramsey.

The statement reads:

Cardiff City were informed on Friday morning that Aaron Ramsey’s preferred destination this summer is at Emirates Stadium with Arsenal.

We will now continue the dialogue with the Gunners with a view to Aaron’s move being completed.

The move unlike other options, however, does not include a loan back period at Ninian Park for the 2008/09 season.

We would like to wish Aaron every success in the top flight.

Though no official statement has been made by Arsenal Football Club as yet a fee of £5m had reportedly been accepted by Cardiff prior to Ramsey talking to the Gunners boss following a flight made at the clubs expense to meet Wenger in Switzerland.

The teenager has been heavily courted by other clubs with Manchester United’s website claiming on the 3rd of June that they were ‘delighted’ to announce having agreed terms with Cardiff City for the transfer of Aaron Ramsey subject to terms being agreed and the player passing a medical.

No deal has been finalised as yet but Ramsey seems to be sure of where he would like to play his football next season.
