Arsenal Miss Eto’o

Watching Barcelona eek out a pretty poor 1-1 draw the other night after a pi$$ poor performance against Chelski in the CL, I was struck by how similar FCB and The Arsenal are right now. What it boils down to I guess is that we are both teams that are missing Samual Eto’o.

FCB look great when they move they ball around at speed similar to Arsenal but they just hit a wall when they get near the goal without Eto’o. We have the same problem. When Wenger said a few months back that he was after Sammy before he went to Barca I was completely gutted. It would have finally given the club The Wrighty option up front. Instead we have Henry and a bunch of Dennis clones that don’t quite match the standards of The Iceman.

Don’t get me wrong, RVP, Rosicky and Hleb are stunningly talented but none offer what we truely need right now. Pundits talk about needing a plan B all the time but like Arsenal, Barca don’t have one because plan A normally worked like a dream (as it did for us when Thierry, Wiltord, Freddy, Bobby and Dennis were together). So they’ll wait till the new year when Eto’o returns and Barcelona become the best team in Europe again.

Arsenal will however trundle on winning some but being frustrated in others. Maybe Aliadiere is the answer? Maybe even Bendtner? But please Arsene, stop taking up that valualbe forward space with midfielders that can spray a perfect 40 yard pass but scuff a 15 yard shot.
