It is finally finally official, that Fran Merida is a gooner.

After months of speculation, rumours & silence, the Arsenal staff have at last commented on the talented youngster.

Vital Arsenal announced last Friday that Merida would play for a Gunners XI against Borehamwood that same day, but lots of miserable sods declared they didn’t believe he had signed and was just on trial, well at last, we have official word from the club about the player.

Neil Banfield, the youth team coach had this to say.

‘Fran is 16 years of age, a central midfield player, and we have high hopes for him,’ he told Arsenal.com.

‘He plays centrally and as we saw against [Boreham Wood] he’s technically very good, he understands the game well and he looks a very good young player.

‘I think the biggest challenge against a team like Boreham Wood is the physical side, there is a bit of rough and tumble to those kinds of games. Some of the lads we had in the side were 15 or 16, and they did very well.’

Fran Merida has also appeared on the youth team squad list.
