Head of academy Andries Jonker is set to leave Arsenal to became the new boss at former club Wolfsburg according to various reports including one in the Mirror.

Jonker has previously acted as Wolfsburg’s assistant before he came to Arsenal in 2014 when replacing Gunners legend Liam Brady to head up the academy. It hasn’t been officially confirmed by it has been understood his exit would be confirmed within the next 24 hours.

The 54 year old is in line to replace Valerien Ismael following his sacking after a 2-1 defeat to Werder Bremen on Friday, which means the fallen German side are in danger of being relegated from the Bundesliga.

An approach to Barcelona coach Pep Segura – who has previously been at Liverpool, Olympiacos and AEK Athens – is reportedly being considered but we’ll face ‘competition from a series of leading Premier League clubs’ to land him.

Losing Jonker would be a blow to the Arsenal academy. However, if the highly rated Segura can be prised away from Barcelona – choosing us ahead of others – it would of course soften that blow.
