The summer transfer window is always an exciting yet frustrating time as we look for our squad to be strengthened, yet more often than not the most important signatures we get are those of the players we want to keep.
With the financial restraints heaped upon Arsenal due to the stadium build, the Gunners often had to sell their best players to survive, but since we`ve rid ourselves of those shackles we have not only signed some world class players but also retained those players that mean the most to us.
Arsenal today announced that Theo Walcott has signed a new deal after his usual lengthy negotiations.
However the announcement was a double whammy with the unexpected (to me at least) contract extension of midfield maestro, Santi Cazorla. There had long been rumours that Santi wouldn`t mind a transfer back to the warmer climate of his home country.
Arsene Wenger was obviously delighted. “We`re delighted to have extended the contracts of Santi and Theo. Both are top quality players who are hugely important and influential to our squad.”
‘As well as their huge contributions on the pitch, they both have a great deal of experience and are very popular off the pitch. We`re very pleased with them both signing contract extensions, as it provides our squad with further stability of quality.”
Theo Walcott often divides opinion but I reckon he will become a vital cog in this team in the seasons to come, whilst Santi Cazorla is a little magician that I absolutely love to watch. His infectious smile and wonderful technique make him one of my favourite players.
