As you know at Vital Arsenal we try to keep the transfer rumours in one place and more mock them than embrace them with open arms, however once in a while the news that we`ve signed a player is so strong that it deserves to be talked about.

Out of the blue last night it emerged from the BBC that Southampton defender Calum Chambers undertook a medical at Arsenal ahead of his proposed £16M move to North London.

There is sufficient smoke behind this one to hazard a guess that it is true and it also look like a typical more recent Wenger signing.

Young, expensive, from Southampton (I feel sorry for those poor buggers this summer) able to play in a number of positions.

With the news that Thomas Vermaelen with probably leave it makes perfect sense to sign the promising Englishman. It also paves the way for Carl Jenkinson to play some first team football somewhere else.

That`s not to say that I want Jenks to leave, I don`t, at all, or that these two couldn`t play in the same team, it`s just as we sign more players we have to lose one or two to maintain the 25 man squad numbers.

Though as Debuchy turns 29 in a couple of days that does not necessarily spell the end for Jenks, a season or two on loan and he could come back ready for action.

More on this one as it breaks.
