Manuel Almunia believes his role this season will not only be to stop the ball hitting the onion bag, but also as a role model to the younger players.

With the departures this summer, Almunia is now, by goofle’s reckoning, the most senior player in the Arsenal squad at the tender age of 31.

Almunia believes that with age and experience, comes a responsibility to set a good example to Arsene Wenger’s young charges.

“The only thing that has changed this season is the number of my shirt,” Almunia told Arsenal.com. “That has changed, but the situation, I hope, will not change and I can have many, many games in goal for Arsenal.

“My role in the team, I expect, will be to show myself as a good example for people around Arsenal. I would like to be a reference for the young players and help them as best I can. But also I want to give my all to performing for the team.”

What ever you think about Almunia’s credentials as Arsenal’s number one, he’s surely got to be a better role model than our former crazy German, hasn’t he? 🙂
