Alexis Sanchez was in front of Arsenal’s in house media team on Thursday evening and he was discussing how getting more to grips with the English language was helping him to continue to impress on the field of play.

With the Chilean forward topping our scoring charts at this moment in time with 14 goals in 22 appearances, whilst he’s pleased with his on pitch contribution so far this year he also had personal delight in his personal growth off the pitch and with such a focus fans will hope to read into the interview that he’s settled and not going anywhere despite the vague speculation that always comes up at this time of year.

Speaking to the Official Site he explained.

‘At the beginning I took lessons for two hours a day. Then I had to make use of what I learnt so I could communicate with my team-mates and the manager. I truly like the English language. Learning it helps me grow as an individual.’

As well as private help to learn the language and settle in, Alexis also praised his team mates in the dressing room for helping him out, but he also revealed that fans in the street have played their part as obviously the more he hears the language and speaks it, the quicker it gets picked up.

‘My team-mates in general have helped me a lot. I have also learnt English in some other contexts, such as having a stroll in the street. People approach me, talk to me in English…my listening and my conversational English are improving a lot thanks to people.’

Having arrived at the club back in 2014, Sanchez did hold his first live television interview a few days ago in English and whilst he admitted it was difficult, it was an experience he was pleased with.

‘A few days ago I did a live interview in English for the first time in my life. I found it a bit difficult, but at the same time I felt comfortable too. I must keep on learning the language so I can develop as a person.’
