Manager Arsene Wenger was back in front of the media on Monday to give more thoughts on victory over Hull City.

With Chilean international Alexis grabbing a brace against Marco Silva’s side to pick up three valuable points at this stage of the campaign given the gap to Chelsea in top spot, Alexis has now been directly involved in 66 goals in 90 Premier League matches now and his record against Hull is seven goals in four matches.

Speaking to the Official Site as he met with the media on Monday, Wenger praised the performance levels and consistency of the 28 year old and he wasn’t overly surprised to see him pick up a third brace in as many games against this particular opponent.

‘Alexis has a striker`s mentality which means he never gives up and fights until the end. That`s why I believe he is at that level. We started quite well against Hull and created many chances, but once we went one goal up, we became protective.’

Wenger went on to say.

‘In the second half we played with just one worry: security. You could see the fans were edgy and anxious as well. On top of that we had the bad luck of playing against a good team, and that explains what happened. I know that the confidence drops quickly when you have two big disappointing results, and that`s why today the mathematics were more important than the way we played to win the game.’

He ended by saying.

‘It was just about three points. We did it in a focused, resilient way and that`s what I demanded. Sometimes it`s not about how, but to win your confidence back you have to win the game.’

Hector Bellerin was also speaking after the game, and in his brief interview he explained that with a strong defensive performance required it was vital we were good on the counter attack.

‘We had to defend well because we knew they were very good on the counter-attack. But we also knew they were slow at the back, so it was about playing balls in behind. After many chances we got the goals we deserved. We played very well on the counter-attack, we knew how to choose our options and it paid off as well.’

With the win taking us back into third in the table, Bellerin more than admitted the game from far from comfortable and Hull showed exactly why they had taken four points from Manchester United and Liverpool in their previous two matches.

‘It`s been a tough couple of weeks and it`s nice to get a good result. It was nice to play at home again in front of our crowd as well. It was a very tough game and since their new manager has taken over, Hull City have been doing really well. It was very hard for us to break them down, but we finally got what we deserved.’
