Arsene Wenger said he expected Alexis Sanchez and Shkodran Mustafi back in first team training on Sunday.
However, Alexis’ return could be delayed after he took to Instagram to claim he was ‘sick.’
Wenger remains adamant Alexis isn’t leaving Arsenal but the Chilean, who the boss said would train ahead of the Emirates Cup meeting with Sevilla, coming down with illness a couple of days before his scheduled return to training at London Colney is a bit suspect, no? A cynic would be, well, very cynical…
Alexis could miss training due to ‘illness’ but Wenger, who didn’t have anything to say about him, did offer brief updates on Gabriel, Jack Wilshere and Santi Cazorla as they look to return to full fitness.
Telling the Official Website: ‘I would say that Gabriel is still a few weeks away because he has an inflammation of his bone.’
He went on to say Wilshere, recovering from a leg fracture at Bournemouth last season, was ‘close’ to his training return. As for Cazorla, out long-term after Achilles surgery, there wasn’t a specific return date but the Spaniard was showing constant improvement.
‘For Santi, it is difficult to set a definite date but he is getting better every day,’ Wenger added.
