Arsenal are represented in the latest League Cup team of the round that has been selected after this week’s action.

The performance by Trent Alexander-Arnold in the two nil loss to Southampton on Wednesday evening at the Emirates Stadium was enough to earn them a place in the side alongside the other most impressive performers in the League Cup competition.

I think we’ll already know ourselves, and not just based on the latest performance, why Alexander-Arnold was selected as part of the team but explaining the choice – the EFL blurb read.

‘The first of two players to make the EFL Cup Team of the Round for the second time this season, Alexander-Arnold played his part in Liverpool’s 2-0 win over Leeds. The 18-year-old defended well, but it was his delightful delivery for Divock Origi which sparked the Reds’ late show.’

It’s always good to see the club represented in this way, and well played to Alexander-Arnold for his recognition, but the most important thing about the weekend was of course progression and that wasn’t achieved.
