After another good 12 months of progression in the life of striker Alex Iwobi, he has now been named the CAF Youth Player of the Year.

The Confederation of African Football awards took place the other day and our young Nigerian forward took the gong based on his performances for Arsenal and the Super Eagles.

For us he registered four goals and five assists during 2016, scoring on his first two Arsenal starts and taking in 72 minutes of the Champions League tie against Barcelona at the Nou Camp and on the international front he scored his first goal for Nigeria in their World Cup qualifier against Zambia and has established himself as a go to player for Gernot Rohr.

The 20 year old face competition from Eric Ayiah (Ghana), Franck Kessie (Ivory Coast), Sidiki Maiga (Mali) and Sandra Owuso-Ansah (Ghana) to take the award.

Let’s hope 2017 is even brighter for his development.
