2010 has barely begun and it’s already gotten off to a great start for Abou Diaby.

The much maligned Diaby has changed public perception of him over the last few weeks with a string of man of the match performances, and the leggy midfielder has been rewarded with a shiney new long term contract (the truth being talks were probably underway long before he got back to form).

Diaby had a promising start to his Arsenal career, even drawing comparisons to the legendary Patrick Vieira, however his form seemed to fall apart after having his ankle broken by Sunderland’s Dan Smith back in 2006. The Frenchman hasn’t looked the same since.

Abou was delighted with his new contract. ‘I’m very happy to sign a new contract with the Club. It shows my long-term commitment to Arsenal. I’m very happy here and I love the Club which is why I’m so pleased to extend my contract. It’s a good thing and hopefully we’re going to have some great years here.’

Hopefully his new found confidence and contract will give him the impetus to keep his first team place that he will occupy in the absence of Song and Fabregas.

Henry Lansbury has also extended his Arsenal contract as well as his loan period at Watford.
