Report: Arsenal target £26m man as replacement in case of Martin Odegaard failure

|

Arsenal have been linked with a summer transfer for Real Betis star Nabil Fekir, who is a back-up target in case the club can’t complete a deal for Martin Odegaard.

According to Goal, the Gunners’ target has a £77m release clause in his contract with the La Liga outfit and has been scouted by the north Londoners ever since his move to Spain.

However, it’s being claimed by the publication that Betis are willing to part with the France international for a mere £26m in the summer.

Should Arsenal sign Fekir?

Yes

No

The situation with Odegaard seems to be too-ing and fro-ing with the latest reports claiming that Real Madrid have no intention of selling the playmaker following his loan spell at Arsenal.

Should that be the case, a back-up would be paramount, and a suitable one at that given how well the Norway international has done since his move from the Spanish capital.

In Fekir, the Gunners would be acquiring a star midfielder, who just a couple of seasons ago was on the radar of Premier League champions, Liverpool. His move to Anfield was reported to have fallen through due to an ongoing knee injury, however, the ace’s former agent claimed it was due to interference from his brother-in-law.

Despite the cinematics surrounding the player’s failed move to the north-west outfit, there is no doubting Fekir’s obvious quality. After a slow start to the season, the attacking midfielder has contributed seven goals in his last 10 games.

He is also just 27-years-old, and with his prime ahead of him, offers the Emirates Stadium giants a good few years at the top-level.

There are questions marks over Odegaard, however, in the £22.5m-rated man, the outfit have identified a like-minded playmaker, who can fill the void the could be left by the 23-year-old.

In other news, the FA are planning some changes to VAR after a stunning season of inconsistencies.
