International manager allays fear over serious injury to Arsenal’s ‘quick-thinking’ ace

|

Norway manager Ståle Solbakken has confirmed that Martin Odegaard has not suffered a serious injury after the playmaker was forced off with an ankle issue during his country’s win over Gibraltar.

The Real Madrid loanee rolled his ankle in the 40th minute and was subsequently subbed off as his side went on to win comfortably.

Speaking in the aftermath of the game, Solbakken has confirmed that the midfielder’s injury is not as bad as first feared, hoping the 22-year-old can return for the clash with Turkey.

What should Arsenal do regarding Odegaard?

Sign permanently

Extend his loan

Don't bring him back

Now, breathe.

I’m sure most people associated with Arsenal had their hearts in their mouths when they heard the news regarding the attacker, however, the update from his manager has provided more than enough optimism over a swift return to action.

Odegaard has been the beating heart of the Gunners side since his arrival from the Spanish capital. His string of performances across the last few weeks have been lauded by pundits and experts alike with Ian Wright, who labelled him ‘quick-thinking’, listing five reasons why his former club should sign the player permanently.

However, whilst his injury and potential absence may be a bitter blow, it highlights the importance of Arsenal’s squad depth. Possessing two genuine number 10s is an advantage to Mikel Arteta, who will be sweating less about the news surrounding his winter signing due to the presence of Emile Smith Rowe.

The news surrounding Odegaard is positive, but, should he be unavailable, Smith Rowe is on hand to slot into his position as if the Norwegian isn’t missing.

In other news, Arsenal could be set to sign the player who knocked Tottenham Hotspur out of the Europa League.
