Soares struggling: £25.2m-rated ace could return soon for Arsenal, says David Ornstein

Kieran Tierney’s recent absence is thought to be down to fatigue as opposed to an actual injury, according to The Athletic’s David Ornstein.

It is being claimed that the pain in his lower leg has been described as ‘discomfort’ hence why fatigue is thought to be the cause and why scans have been clear ahead of a potential return to action soon.

The Scotland international has missed six of the last seven games across all competitions, including five of the last six Premier League games.

Is Kieran Tierney Arsenal's most important player?

Yes

No

Among the news you’re likely to receive this week, this report over Tierney will be up there with the very best. Having been forced to watch Cedric Soares play left-back over the course of the last few games, I can safely say it’s an experiment which has definitely failed.

The Portuguese defender proves to be incredibly uncomfortable on the ball at both ends of the pitch as was the case against Aston Villa, where his short pass to Gabriel Magalhaes cost the Gunners a goal and a chance at three points.

There are bigger concerns about Soares especially on the ball in the final third. It seems the defender’s inability to use his weaker foot slows down the Arsenal attack a lot as he cuts back on to his right. That was part of the reason why Nicolas Pepe and the former Southampton right-back failed to link-up to any effect against Dean Smith’s side.

I don’t think I need to tell just how effective Tierney has been at both ends of the pitch during his time at left-back this season. From defending one-on-one to providing sensational crosses in the final third, the £25.20m-rated former Celtic man has it all in his locker and is a crucial player for Mikel Arteta’s side.

In other news, one player’s injury is better than first feared.
