Fabrizio Romano quashes rumours over £28.8m-rated midfielder’s potential return this month

|

Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Matteo Guendouzi will not be returning to Arsenal from his season-long loan spell at Hertha Berlin.

Reports emerged last week that the Gunners were considering calling the midfielder back from his time with the Bundesliga outfit.

However, the famed Italian journalist has quashed any hope supporters had of seeing the enigmatic Frenchman back at the Emirates Stadium, claiming The Old Lady want to retain the player for the remainder of the campaign.

Should Arsenal sign Yves Bissouma this month?

Yes

No

Arsenal’s midfield conundrum proves to be a tricky one. When the current trio of Granit Xhaka, Mohamed Elneny and Dani Ceballos are off form, they’re really off form as seen during the run of form back in November and December. However, it seems Mikel Arteta has got them singing from the same hymn sheet as Thomas Partey with the Reds enjoying their longest winning run of the season.

And with just half a season left, you’d expect the highly paid professionals to be able to string together a consistent run of form from now until May. The need for Guendouzi isn’t there, and should he return you’d imagine it would take a lot to displace any of the current quartet available to the former Manchester City coach.

There seems to be a suggestion that the France youth international’s time at the club could be drawing to a close, making any recall baffling. The midfielder clearly isn’t in Arteta’s plans as shown towards the end of last season, and he’d heighten his value far more playing regular football in Germany than warming the benches in N5.

In other news, a Premier League star favours a move to Arsenal over any other top-flight club.
