‘Very clever signing’: Kevin Campbell endorses Arsenal pursuit of £40m target

|

Kevin Campbell has claimed that Norwich City attacking midfielder Emiliano Buendia would be a ‘very clever’ signing for Arsenal.

The Norwich City man has emerged as a transfer target for the Gunners this month, however, The Athletic have claimed that the club won’t the Canaries’ asking price of £40m.

Speaking to Football Insider,  the former Highbury favourite has claimed the player would fit perfectly into Mikel Arteta’s plans.

Campbell said: “I think he would be a very clever signing. I like him. He has the qualities that Mikel Arteta is looking for in a player. Not only can he pick a pass, he can score and he works hard. He has that energy which has been missing from the team for long periods of this season.”

“I think there is some really good players in the Championship and Buendia is one of them. He would fit what Arteta wants to do perfectly. I know Norwich will be desperate to keep him but this is Arsenal and business is business. I am sure Buendia would want to join Arsenal, that is for sure.” (via Football Insider)

Should Arsenal get rid of Joe Willock or Reiss Nelson?

Sell Willock

Sell Nelson

Sell both

Don't sell either

Buendia is a player that would fit like a glove in terms of what Arteta demands from his players. However, for the asking price Norwich are asking for, it’s simply a transfer not worth pursuing.

To add insult to any injury, signing the Argentinian would hamper the progress of Emile Smith Rowe, who has started life in the Arsenal first-team on fire. The young ace has either a goal or an assist in three of his last four appearances for the club.

His all-round play has been nothing sh0rt of brilliant, including his movement into space and quick exchange of one-two passing.

Spending £40m on Buendia would not be ‘very clever’ from an Arsenal perspective. Stopping the development of youth and spending recklessly are two habits the club need to cut out.

In other news, this Arsenal man has been let down by his teammates.
