‘He was at the forefront’: Stephen Warnock waxes lyrical about £31.5m-rated star

Stephen Warnock has been waxing lyrical about Arsenal’s Alexandre Lacazette following his goalscoring exploits against West Bromwich Albion.

The France international continued his hot form as he notched up a brace against Sam Allardyce’s side in a 4-0 win for the Gunners.

Speaking to Sky SportsThe Football Show (04/01; 11:51), The former Liverpool defender lauded the Frenchman for his all-round play.

Warnock said: “He was at the forefront of everything good about Arsenal’s performance at the weekend. His all-round play was great. Arteta has placed willing and able runners around him and right now it’s bringing the best out of Lacazette.” (via Sky Sports)

Is Lacazette good enough to play for Arsenal?

Yes

No

It’s true. Lacazette’s all-round game makes him one of, if not, Arsenal’s most important player. However, we need to discuss the elephant in the room regarding the 29-year-old, his consistency in front of goal.

Whilst he does possess the skillset to carry the club forward in attack, his finishing ability is pretty worrying for me. There are times in games, where the forward will miss a guilt-edged chance and for all his hold-up play and passing, that’s not good enough.

Various times this season, the experienced forward has missed crucial chances at vital points in games. With the score locked in at 1-1 against Liverpool, the £31.5m-rated star was sent clean through on goal, only to fluff the chance. And at 0-0 during the clash with Leicester City, the striker completely missed the ball from just a few yards out.

You can have all the hold-up and link-up play in the world, but, if you as a number nine can’t put the ball in the back of the net on a consistent basis, you’re not good enough. Arsenal as a club are looking to reach the top of English football, and when you compared Lacazette to the likes of Manchester City’s and Liverpool’s options, he doesn’t compare.

In other news, Fabrizio Romano has provided an update on Arsenal’s transfer plans this month.
