Fabrizio Romano’s latest update proves baffling after months of underwhelming displays – Opinion

Fabrizio Romano has revealed the latest transfer news concerning Arsenal and their pursuit of a creative midfielder this month.

It was revealed by The Athletic’s David Ornstein last year that the Gunners were looking to add a creative option to their squad this month.

The famed Italian journalist has gone one further and claimed Norwich City’s Emiliano Buendia is just ‘one of the options’ being looked at by the club. He also revealed that official talks have yet to begin with the Norfolk outfit as the side decide their strategy.

Should Arsenal get rid of Joe Willock or Reiss Nelson?

Sell Willock

Sell Nelson

Sell both

Don't sell either

Planning is key in any scenario, especially when you are trying to rebuild a club the size of Arsenal. You would have thought the Gunners had already drawn up their priority list prior to the opening of the winter transfer window, however, it seems the club are dawdling.

You can’t turn around and then say: ‘The Emirates Stadium giants need time’. The outfit have been struggling to create opportunities all season long, showing clear signs that there’s a need for an attacking midfielder.

Quick business is always the best option when you’re looking to make an impact mid-season. Just look at how quickly Liverpool conduct their business in the market. The deal to sign Virgil van Dijk was completed long before January 1st arrived back during the 2017/2018 season.

By the beginning of the new year, the Dutchman was at the club’s Melwood training ground feeling his way into his new surroundings. It’s a move which eventually paid dividends as the Merseysider’s reached the Champions League final.

It’s head-scratching to be honest with you. If the Reds have identified the Argentine as their priority this window, than make a move and quick. It helps integrate Buendia quicker. But, Romano’s update is far from convincing, especially the part where he claims the hierarchy are ‘deciding a strategy’.

In other news, Mikel Arteta has labelled this £25m ace as a future captain.
