‘It wouldn’t be Willian’: Paul Ince would choose £14.4m-rated young gun over Brazilian

|

Paul Ince has claimed that he’d have Joe Willock in the Arsenal starting XI ahead of summer signing Willian.

The Brazilian was once again hooked off before completing 90 minutes, making it the eighth time the former Chelsea man has failed to finish a game.

Appearing on Optus Sports’ coverage of the Wolverhampton Wanderers clash, the former Liverpool ace claimed he wouldn’t pick the experienced winger ahead of the 20-year-old.

Ince said: “Would you have (him) in your team or Willian? I know who I’d have. It wouldn’t be Willian that’s for sure.” (via Optus Sport)

Who should start on the right wing for Sunday's north London derby?

Willian

Willock

With Willian proving wholly ineffective since his move from west London, there’s definitely a place up for grabs on the right-wing.

Willock has been used in a number of positions during the course of last season and this campaign. The England youth international played in six different areas last year, scoring five goals in what proved to be a breakthrough campaign. He’s continued his rich vein of form this campaign, scoring two goals and assisting a further three whilst playing in four different positions.

In stark contrast, Willian has been nothing short of an embarrassment since his move this summer. As well as scoring no goals so far for the Gunners, the 32-year-old has also averaged one or less in all attacking categories on WhoScored. His lack of anything from his all-round attacking game is a real worry given how well he performed for Chelsea last season.

With the Brazil international proving a failure, it’s time Mikel Arteta gave opportunities to the £14.4m-rated Englishman, whose hunger, desire and versatility make him a valuable asset on the right wing.

In other news, Martin Samuel showed his support for this figure among the choose at Arsenal.
