Report: Arsenal turn down chance to sign 6 foot Serie A ace

|

Arsenal are said to have snubbed the chance to sign Christian Eriksen in the January transfer window, according to The Daily Star.

The Danish midfielder is free to leave Internazionale in a couple of months’ time and was offered to Mikel Arteta’s side, who have turned down offer.

It is thought Arsenal are more interested in signing a centre-back, who is at the top of the Spaniard’s wish list in the winter window.

Whilst the club may have turned down a move for the Dane, one would hope that the Gunners have not completely turned their attention away from signing a creative player. The north London outfit are crying out for someone, who can deliver that killer pass in the final third having already lost Mesut Ozil due to exceptional circumstances.

Do Arsenal need to sign a creative midfielder in the January transfer window?

Yes

No

The German has been such a cornerstone of the club’s play in attack that despite having not featured in the league since March, only three Arsenal players have created more chances than him. It is a truly astonishing sign about how much the Red have relied on his creativity since he joined the club in 2014.

You’d like to think the club would reconsider their stance on Eriksen with the reports in Bild claiming that Red Bull Leipzig are the firm favourites to sign Hungarian wonderkid Dominik Szoboszlai. Further reports from The Athletic claim that the club still retain an interest in Houssem Aouar, however, with deals so notoriously difficult to do in January, it would be hard to imagine one being completed for the Lyon man.

Having been offered the 6’0 28-year-old, a deal for Eriksen could be a great short-term fix for their problems in attack. It may not be ideal of in line with the policy of signing young players the club currently have in place, however, it would provide Arteta with another quality player in what is already a star-filled attack.

In other news, Rio Ferdinand has lent his support to one under-fire Arsenal man.
