Arsenal rounded off their pre-season in style with a long awaited victory over Chelsea at Wembley this afternoon.

The Gunners beat the Blues 1-0 courtesy of an Oxlade-Chamberlain screamer in this season`s Community Shield at Wembley to make it six successive wins in the national stadium.

In the last 14 months Arsenal have won two FA Cup semi finals, two FA Cup finals and two Community shields at Wembley as the Gunners fortunes appear to have done an about turn after many years clawing to get back into the honours.

Of course the Community Shield is not the most sought after of prizes but it`s better to win it than to not, right? Just actually being a part of the shield match tells us the team had a successful season the previous year.

Winning four pieces of silverware in 14 months is nothing to be sniffed at, though of course what we really want is the league and the Champions League, but what we have is a cracking foundation on which to build.

The Gunners could do with a player or two to really solidify a title challenge but I wouldn`t put it past our boys to have a real go at it even if no-one else comes in. We did sign Petr Cech this summer and after taking to the field three times in an Arsenal jersey has come away with three medals.

Again, not the tournaments everyone is looking to win at the start of the season, but what a great way to begin his Arsenal career.

The more experience these lads get at hoisting trophies above their heads the better, and the more it happens the hungrier they`ll get.

Roll on next weekend when the real fun begins.
